Message from Secretary Tourism Department, Punjab

Punjab's hospitality industry has a lot of potential because of its unique culture, landscape, and historic holy sites. Such a unique geography and other touristic features can draw in a large number of domestic and foreign tourists/visitors in Punjab. In order to provide superior hospitality services and unlock the full potential of the nation's tourism sector, it was necessary to have trained personnel that could provide facilitation, guidance and regulation in service delivery, a higher level of security and satisfaction to the tourists. The Punjab Tourism Squad (PTS) has been established as a result of numerous complaints received by the department from tourists regarding the unfair high prices of lodging & other services at hotels, hoteliers' misbehavior with tourists, tourists facing difficulties in finding desired locations and filing complaints, as well as lack of coordination between various departments like the Punjab police, local health department, traffic police, Rescue-1122 and local administration. The Punjab Tourism Squad (PTS) has been equipped with necessary training and resources to provide guidance, facilitation, help and necessary coordination to the tourists in Punjab.

Enforcement of standards of services in the hospitality industry of Punjab is the responsibility of the Department of Tourist Services (DTS), Punjab. DTS is trying its best for performing its functions efficiently under the valued leadership of the Secretary Tourism, Punjab and with the help of coordinated efforts of its small but dedicated Staff. Resultantly, the number of registered and licensed hotels, restaurants, travel agencies and tourist guides in Punjab has seen significant increase over the years. Thus, DTS continues to generate and enhance provincial revenue worth of millions of rupees annually through regulation of standards of services in the hospitality sector across Punjab.
